BIBSYS digital research library - status and future plans

چکیده

BIBSYS is a cooperation between 90 academic and research libraries in Norway. In 2001 BIBSYS made a report for the Norwegian university libraries concerning the possibility of a radical move from paper based to electronic information resources. In broader terms the question was: what should a digital research library (based on web-access to library services and information resources) contain? And, which services and information resources should be implemented in such a system? BIBSYS has now started to follow up the plans suggested in this report. The presentation will show some of the services already offered by BIBSYS and the plans for future development. In some cases different solutions are available, and they will be discussed. Emphasis will be on a broad description of the situation, not on technical detail. Most services from BIBSYS are freely available on the web: http://www.bibsys.no/english.html (English interface) http://www.bibsys.no/ (Norwegian interface) CV for Roy Gundersen 1952 Born in San Pedro, California by Norwegian parents 1959 Moved to Bergen, Norway, attended school in Bergen 1971-81 Studies at the University of Bergen (mathematics and physics) 1976-81 Research assistant in theoretical physics (part time), University of Bergen / The Norwegian Research Council 1981 Cand. real. degree, thesis in theoretical atomic physics, University of Bergen 1981-82 Trainee at the University of Trondheim Library (UBiT), Trondheim 1982-86 Research librarian, UBiT 1986-88 Senior research librarian, UBiT 1982-88 Work, partly at the University library (responsible for literature in mathematics, computer science and library science), partly at BIBSYS (deputy director from 1986) 1989Director, BIBSYS
